Information about Trail Clearing at Huerfano State Wildlife Area

The trail clearing will be on Friday, July 18th and Saturday, July 19th. Arrival on Thursday, July 17th, please don’t arrive at the campground before 2pm. There is a big meadow with plenty of room for several rigs. There is a creek that runs through the camping area, plenty of water for Horses. There are 2 port-a-potties in the camping area. Be prepared for your Horse to be tied to your trailer.

FRBCH will be serving dinner on Friday night.

Rules for this event.

1. The rules for visiting a State Wildlife area (SWA) are you must have valid hunting, fishing or Colorado Habitat Stamp. It will need to always be with you.

2. You will need certified hay at this location for your horse. Whether it be hay, pellets or hay cubes.

3. You will need a halter and lead rope on your horse on the trail.

4. DOGS - will be allowed under these rules:

1. Dogs will not be allowed on the trails with the group during any of the days.

2. Dogs must be always leashed in camp. Your dogs will need to be secured at your camp site.

3. Dogs will not be allowed in the specific food serving area.

5. We ask that you keep your area clean and the way you found it. Spreading your manure away from other participants.

Directions: Take I-25 South to Exit 56 – Redrock Road. Turn Right at the end of the ramp and go 2.4 miles to the “T”. Turn right onto Hwy 69. Stay on Hwy 69 to Gardner (18 miles). Go through Gardner and turn left onto CR 550 at the 26-mile marker and the signs for Red Wing/Mosca Pass/Nat’l Park Access/Great Sand Dunes Nat’l Monument. After about 7.4 miles, 550 becomes a dirt road. After 4.5 miles on the dirt road, bear left at the “Y” onto 580 following a sign for “Lily Lake Trailhead 10 miles.” At 1.5 miles, there is a small yellow sign marked “Trail” on the left with a left turn going into the main campground. Look for the FRBCH banner, do not pass the trailhead. Swing wide with bigger trailers, tight turn.
